Trying to buy from Olive Young? You may have hit a Korean-only app, a signup that wants you to verify who you are, or a Global site that’s missing the exact item you wanted. This is Korea’s quietest shopping problem. Whether you can do it yourself comes down to one thing: is your item on Olive Young Global, or only in the Korean app?
What stops you
The Korean Olive Young app and site are built for locals. They’re tied to CJ ONE membership, and to sign up for CJ ONE, Korea checks your real ID. You need a Korean phone number opened in your own name, or a Korea-issued foreigner ID number with a matching English name, plus a one-time code.
No ARC and no verified membership means no member prices, coupons, points, age-checked items, app login, in-store pickup, or same-day 오늘드림. On top of that, the Korean app is Korean-only. There is no button to switch it to English, which is why shoppers swap screenshot glossaries just to read 랭킹, 세일, and 품절 제외. Tourists can’t pass the ID check. Residents can only once their ARC is linked to a Korean line.
Can you do it yourself? Often yes, through Olive Young Global
For items sold there, Olive Young Global takes the Korean ID, phone, and language out of the way:
- Sign up with email: no Korean phone or ID needed.
- The site is in English, and you can pick Korea as your origin.
- Pay with an international card or PayPal. It ships to 60+ places (DHL/FedEx/UPS/LX Pantos), though not the US.
You can do this on your own. But know these catches before you count on it:
- Global does NOT carry the full Korean catalog. This is the thing every Reddit and Xiaohongshu shopper hits: the Korean app has items Global just doesn’t list.
- It often costs more than in the store, and free shipping only starts over a price total that changes by destination.
- Customs is real. Orders over your country’s duty-free limit can pick up import tax and delays, so check your local limit before a big haul.
If the item is on Global, use Global. It’s cleaner, and we’ll point you to it.
When doing it yourself won’t work
Get someone to do it for you (a Korean friend you trust, or Toyoni) when:
- the item is Korea-only: it’s in the Korean app but not on Global;
- you want a member deal or app coupon that needs CJ ONE;
- you need in-store pickup or same-day 오늘드림, which need a Korean phone;
- you’re stuck in the Korean-only app and can’t tell what’s in stock or on sale;
- you want a Korea-vs-Global price check before you buy.
Chinese shoppers put the other option bluntly: chasing 代购 proxies who promise WeChat-video receipts, then go quiet, while you worry the goods are fake. The top advice is “走官方吧” (just use the official channel). People want someone who talks to them and is accountable, not a gamble.
How Toyoni helps
We buy the Korea-only item you found on the Korean site, use the Korean-only app for you, grab a member deal or app coupon, and set up in-store pickup or same-day 오늘드림 that needs a Korean phone. We also check the Korean price against Global so you don’t overpay, and point you to Olive Young Global when the item is better bought there. It’s chat-first and screenshot-driven. Unlike flaky 代购 and forwarders, you get proof when we buy, not a promise. Shopping elsewhere too? The same thing works on Coupang, Musinsa, and Kurly.
