Want us to handle it?

If you found an item on Bunjang (번개장터), first check whether it is available through Bunjang Global or only in the local Korean app. That determines whether you can use the English buying service or need a verified local account.

What stops you

You can use local Bunjang as a foreigner only if Korea can confirm your real ID. The official FAQ says foreign nationals may join when “외국인 등록증이 발급되어 본인인증이 가능한” (you have an ARC and Korea can check your ID). Signup runs through “본인인증(휴대폰, 토스),” so you confirm your ID with a Korean phone line or Toss.

Two groups get stuck. Tourists have no ARC and no Korean-readable phone line, so they can’t even start. Residents often have an ARC but still hit errors (인증정보 불일치 / auth mismatch, 외국인 인증 불가 / foreign check failed, or 외국인등록번호 오류) because the carriers don’t read passport data or your name doesn’t match exactly. On top of that, the whole app and every seller chat is in Korean only.

Can you do it on your own?

Try Bunjang Global first. It adds English search and buys items for you (shipping handled via Delivered Korea), and for many listed items it’s enough. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s impossible.

Bunjang Global is not a local account. Its terms keep Korean Bunjang for Korea residents, and Global provides translated listings and buying links rather than direct seller chat. Global will not help when:

  • the item is local-only and never shows up in Global’s catalogue;
  • you need to talk down the price or check the condition with the seller, or send it to an address abroad;
  • you want the item during a short Korea trip, not through a slow buy-and-ship-later flow.

One detail older guides miss: since August 2024, local Bunjang runs on card-based 안전결제 (safe-payment) and cash deals are gone. Safe-payment still needs a verified local account, so the ID check, not the card, is what stops you.

When you can’t do it on your own

Get someone to do it for you (a Korean friend you trust, or Toyoni) when:

  • the listing is only on the Korean app and you can’t get it through Bunjang Global;
  • your own ID check won’t pass (no ARC, or a resident whose Toss, name, or phone check keeps failing);
  • you need to chat with the seller in Korean to talk down the price, confirm the condition, or send it abroad;
  • you’re tempted by a 代切/account-rental offer (Chinese buyers on Xiaohongshu warn that renting accounts gets people scammed).

How Toyoni helps

We review the listing for warning signs, message the seller in Korean to discuss the price or condition, and use safe-payment on a verified local Bunjang account when the listing and platform rules allow it. If Bunjang Global already covers the item, we point you there. Otherwise, we arrange the domestic delivery or handoff and send proof.

We do not rent or transfer verified accounts. If you have also been looking at Karrot, its local-account and neighborhood rules are different.

How we handle your information

  • We explain what the task requires before you share anything. For tasks done on our account, we use our own verified Korean details.
  • You share only what the approved task needs. You can start chat without a listing or address. We ask for the item details and delivery address only after you approve the quote.
  • Your card details stay with Stripe. You enter them on Stripe's checkout page. Toyoni does not receive or store your full card number.
  • You can ask us to delete your information. Contact us whenever you want us to remove what we hold.

FAQ

Why does Bunjang say 인증정보 불일치 or 외국인 인증 불가?

Those errors mean Korea couldn't confirm your ID. To sign up, Bunjang runs 본인인증 through a Korean phone line or Toss, and SKT/KT/LG U+ often don't read foreign passport data. A name that doesn't match (say 'Mary Jane' vs 'Mary-Jane') fails too. Tourists with no ARC can't get past it at all. Some residents with an ARC still hit 외국인등록번호 오류.

Is Bunjang Global enough, or do I still need the Korean app?

Bunjang Global (globalbunjang.com) adds English search and buys items for you. It's enough when your item is listed there and you don't need to talk to the seller. It is not the local account: it gives you translated listings plus buy-for-me links, not direct buying. Local-only listings, talking down the price, and 'I want it during a short trip' don't work through it.

Can I pay with my foreign card on Bunjang?

Since August 2024, local Bunjang runs on card-based '안전결제' (safe-payment), and cash deals are gone. Safe-payment needs a verified local account, so what stops you is the ID check, not the card. Older guides that tell you to do a Korean bank transfer are out of date.

People rent verified Bunjang accounts to skip the ID check. Is that safe?

No. The 代切/account-rental grey market that goes around on Xiaohongshu gets people scammed. Using someone else's verified account puts your money and the item at risk. Instead, get a real verified purchase made for you, which is what Toyoni does.

Can foreigners buy on Bunjang and pay from outside Korea?

The hard parts are payment, seller chat, and account verification. If you cannot pass the Korean account steps or pay the seller directly, use the Global/proxy path or have a verified helper handle the purchase.

What it costs

From $10. You get a fixed quote before you pay. Pay per task, with no subscription or account.If we can’t complete the agreed task, we refund the service fee and any unspent funds.
